Hi.

I'm recording my adventures in exploring my mother's food, my own food adventures and sometimes travel. That is Tyson, getting in the way as usual.

Happy Year of the Rabbit

Happy Year of the Rabbit

Happy Lunar New Year!! Say goodbye to the Tiger, and welcome the Rabbit. Normally I don’t do a lot of Chinese new year and I definitely avoid Chinatown and Flushing since the crowds are always insane. So this year I opted to order in some dim sum to the apartment. It’s not really a dim sum place, Bund on Broadway is more of a soup dumpling place, but I’ve been wanting to try out their dim sum selections.

I went with a shrimp dumpling - pretty standard, always good; pork belly bao - good, had some crushed peanuts for texture, pork/shrimp/chive dumpling - pretty standard, I would have preferred pan fried, woodear mushroom salad - the illusion of being a little healthier, shumai - except I messed up and wanted to get the classic shumai, this one was the Bund special one, which was rice, like you find in the lotus leaves, jumbo pan fried pork buns - these are some of my favorite, and scallion pancakes stuffed with beef brisket - the sauce they used was much sweeter, I’m used to hoisin and I think they used a bbq type sauce. We also ordered a crispy noodles with seafood which somehow didn’t get a picture. Not bad, althought I think it will always be best fresh at the restaurant.
