Hi.

I'm recording my adventures in exploring my mother's food, my own food adventures and sometimes travel. That is Tyson, getting in the way as usual.

East Side Brunch

East Side Brunch

My companion passes the Upper East Cafe nearly everyday and wanted to try it out. For the most part, it felt like a typical brunch menu. I had a tough time deciding between breakfast and lunch and as a last minute decision, I went with the smoked salmon benedict.

It was pretty standard, except they also included spinach in the benedict. I appreciated the freshness of some veggies, however it felt like the whole thing was a little underseasoned. The only real saltiness came from the smoked salmon and so if there was not enough of that in the bite, which happened frequently, it was all bland. I think if the spinach was seasoned, it could have made all the difference. The dish came with home fries, which were okay. My favorite part is when they have the crispy bits from being on the griddle, and I didn’t get any of that this time. My companion went with a standard breakfast but instead of regular french toast, was able to upgrade to the churro french toast.

This would be my recommendation if you do happen to dine here. Fluffy french toast with cinnamon sugar. Not sure my last minute pivot on decision was the right one, but live and learn, right?
