Pizza on every corner
My companion and I decided to have lunch in the neighborhood and I’ve been wanting to return to Macoletta for some time now. A good piece of advice? Always check opening times to places just in case. We arrived at 11:30am, thinking that most places open at 11am for lunch, only to find out they don’t open until 12pm. Oops. So we took a walk around the block and looked around one of the pet supply stores to get out of the cold for a bit. There were 2 very friendly kitties, one who was staking out the bird cage that was far out of reach. Finally, we were able to walk back and be seated. We went with a couple simple pizzas.
I went with the Taleggio, which was a white pie (no sauce) with caramelized onions, sausage and taleggio cheese. The other was their Diablo with nduja, spicy salami, calabrian chili and honey. The crust was nice and thin and crispy (no soggy bottoms!). The onions added a touch of sweetness that helped to offset the saltiness in the sausage. I thought they skimped a little on the onion and would have loved there to be a lot more. The dessert menu looked great but we were so full we have to save it for another time. The best part is that this is such a quick walk from home - it’s always nice to have a great pizza spot in the area. (But this is NYC so of course there’s actually a few other great places).
