Hi.

I'm recording my adventures in exploring my mother's food, my own food adventures and sometimes travel. That is Tyson, getting in the way as usual.

I won lottery tickets to Kimberly Akimbo on Broadway. I had no idea what it was about going in, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really recommend it, and I think it was more fun going in blind. Lots of 90s references. Afterwards, I was starved, so we needed to find something to eat.

I’ve been dying to try out All’Antico Vinaio for quite awhile but the lines outside were always so long when I was walking by. We were lucky this time around that the line was extremely short. I think the lines have been better lately as well since there are an additional 2 locations in NYC now.

There are so many great choices on the menu, but for my first order, I decided on La District (Pancetta, pecorino cream, sun dried tomato, arugula).

I get what all the hype was about now. Light foccacia, yet still crisp and generous with the filling. The pecorino cream was my favorite part. I was so pleased with my sandwich (I could only eat half, they’re so large), that I took another to go for the next day. I went with the La Schiacciata del Boss (Prosciutto toscano, pecorino toscano, truffle cream). Even though it sounded great, I think I preferred my first choice more, due to the fact that it had some greens in it and the sun dried tomato added some needed acidity. I can’t wait to go back and try all the other sandwiches.

Afterwards we thought we’d go get some dessert and I found a place that did some donut ice cream sandwiches. We had been to another place that did these downtown, so I wanted to compare. So we headed to Holey Cream. The nice thing about this place was that there were options for everything, unlike the other. For the donut ice cream sandwiches, you could have your choice of donut and then 3 choices of ice cream scoops. When you make your donut choice, they freshly dip them in the glaze and add the topping of your choice, and then add the ice cream. It was so much more than I expected.

I had thte cookies & cream donut with dulce de leche, moose tracks and something else that I just can’t remember, I think it was off their new flavor menu. My companion also had a donut ice cream sandwich, M&M donut with a Cookie Monster ice cream and a couple other choices.

My recommendation is to share with someone as these are very filling. Also, it was a little too sweet for my taste as they drizzled extra glaze on the ice cream. But would I go back? Absolutely. The ice cream was tasty and they have a lot of fun, different flavors.
