Take me out to the theater... and then dinner and dessert
Maybe I should start numbering the theater posts? Nah. Too late. Once again, I waited until the last minute to see a show and we went the day before it closed. Take Me Out featured Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jesse Williams. We picked one of the coldest days of the year to go, so that was fun. But surprise! As we were getting settled into our seats, I hear my name and turn around and see a friend 3 rows back from us! I guess this is when they say that NYC is smaller than you think. Show was great, enjoyed it a lot. So since we did the 2pm matinee, next comes the dilemma of where to eat afterwards. After the Jollibee fiasco, I discovered afterwards that Gordon Ramsay has actually opened a fish and chips shop in Times Square, so we went to check it out.
Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips was themed with the Union Jack colors, so the colors were very bold. But it still has that shiny new restaurant feel. It’s definitely just a fish & chips shop and had a very limited menu. You can choose from fish, shrimp chicken, fishwich, chickenwich. The combos include chips in the order and you can choose 2 sauces. You can get chips separately with sauces or get them “Dirty.” Then there were a multitude of drink offers; your standard sodas, then sweet tea, lemonade, etc. However the shake options piqued my interest and I think I’ll definitely go back to try them out: sticky toffee shake (very Gordon Ramsay) and biscoff shake. My companion and I both ordered the fish & shrimp combo and I went with buttermilk ranch & mango curry sauces while my companion went with mango curry & sriracha aioli and also went with dirty fries (bacon, cheese, sour cream, scallion).
Everything came out pretty fast and it was well organized. The order came with 2 pieces of fish & 3 pieces of shrimp, fairly generous. They were well fried and not greasy. The chips were pretty standard, but I didn’t finish them anyways since the fish & shrimp were pretty filling. Enjoyed the meal and I think it’s nice to have another fast casual option in Times Square that isn’t a standard American chain. After a stop in a couple shops, we made our way to the Hershey store - we saw a promotion in the playbill offering a free chocolate bar with any purchase.
They had a lot of fun options at the store; s’mores, milkshakes, hot chocolate, cookies and you could also make a giant peanut butter cup with your choice of mix-ins. Despite it being freezing outside, we still went with milkshakes, I had the cookies & creme while my companion had the peanut butter cup. It was better than I expected and they put some generous cookie chunks broken up on the top along with 2 pieces of the candy. Note for those who want to take advantage of the free chocolate bar promotion though. Since it’s a bar code to scan, to prevent you from coming back to redeem again, they ask for you to rip it out of the book. Now that was a no-go for me since I collect my playbills so I didn’t want to ruin it. If you want to save your playbill but want to take advantage of this offer, my suggestion is to try to grab an extra playbill that can get ruined.
