From corn country to Victorian England... in NYC
We went to see Shucked… a musical about corn. It was very fun, worth a see. Afterwards, we had reservations at Lillie’s Victorian Establishment. I have walked by this place so many times and was always so intrigued by it and decided to finally pay a visit and it did not disappoint. The decor is the most fun, it’s completely decked out and very flowery. I know for other holidays they also add additional decorations (including Lunar New Year!).
The cocktail menu was very fun and they have a fairly good choice of mocktails as well.
i had the Siouxsie Sioux (Vodka, Elderflower liqueur, Lavender, Rosé & Q Grapefruit Soda), refreshing, crisp and light (but not on the alcohol). One of my companions went with a mocktail.
For appetizer, I love a burrata so I couldn’t resist when I saw it on the menu.
It was served over some roasted asparagus and paired with prosciutto with a fig sauce and balsamic. A very classic combination, but no less delicious. My companions went with the korean style fried chicken and the French Onion Soup.
For entree, I went with the mushroom tagliatelle. My companions went with the steak and a classic burger.
The steak was accompanied by black garlic and the tiniest of roasted potatoes. The pasta though, was so full of mushroom flavor, it really hit the spot. Not to mention it was topped with truffles which added to the fragrance. Really delicious and enough to pack some to go for another meal!
Overall I wasn’t sure what to expect from this restaurant as oftentimes places with a heavy theme like this near Times Square don’t have the best food. However, I was impressed with the variety on the drink menu, in addition to solid food choices and food quality itself. If you want to avoid the Times Square area, they have a Union Square location as well which I will need to pay a visit at some point.
