Mexican Adventures in Astoria
As my companion is Mexican in heritage and hails from the state of California, we are on a journey to find what they may consider comparable Mexican food within the city. There are a lot of places up and down Astoria Blvd, however, the first one was a total bust. When you can’t do rice and beans properly, you know it’s not great. So there was another place next door, Frijolito’s, so we decided to check it out, especially as it made claims of being “authentic.”
We started with the Tostadas de Bistec. They came out fairly quickly and the tostada was very crisp and freshly fried. Enjoyable.
Then, i had the chimichanga. I think half the people that order this is because they like to say the name, and the other half just likes fried foods. It was massive, so I was able to take the other half home to enjoy for another meal.
Overall, I was pretty satisfied with my meal. It wasn’t the best mexican I’ve had, but it also wasn’t the worst. I would go back, especially due to the proximity to home.
